The Cambridge Society for Early Music offers arts administration internships for college and masters students during the fall, spring, and summer. Our internships are intended to provide students with a well-balanced, educational experience that gives insight into the inner workings of a small, non-profit arts organization. We have the flexibility to accommodate a student’s areas of interest and needs.
CSEM Internships
Internship Overview:
Marketing & Communications
- Responsibilities:

- Create online calendar posts, social media and email marketing content.
- Manage CSEM’s ad swap program with other local groups
- Help draft press releases.
- Help create concert programs.
- Update press contact information and research other avenues of outreach
- Support with database management and ticket sales.
- Goals:
- Provide support for marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives.
Development
- Responsibilities:
- Track and enter donations into a CRM system.
- Assist with grant research and tracking.
- Support donor mailings and appeals.
- Goals:
- Learn critical fundraising and administrative skills while supporting the development team.
Outreach and Concert Support
- Responsibilities:
- Set up and cleanup/takedown at concerts, receptions and educational events.
- Serve as an usher, box office support, and helper at post-concert reception
- Assist performing artists as needed
- Support educational workshops and events by helping coordinate program supplies, set-up and musician logistics, as well as audience management. There is a particular opportunity for those interested in arts education to get hands-on experience as an education lead at kids’ events.
- Goals:
- Provide direct support for the logistical and operational needs of performances and special events.
What we hope you will bring with you:
- Knowledge of classical music, preferably with an interest for Early Music
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Proficiency with GoogleDocs, Google and Excel spreadsheets, and willingness to learn ticketing, audience management, and financial tracking software
- Experience with graphic design, including platforms such as Photoshop or Canva a plus!
- Social media skills and creativity
General Internship Information
- Availability: Internships are ideally available for spring or fall semesters.
- Duration: Internship hours and duration are structured to meet academic or other requirements and will be set to meet mutual needs.
- Experience: Interns will receive a well-rounded and educational experience learning multiple facets–media, marketing, audience relations, and event management–of a small arts non-profit. They will gain insight into the administrative and artistic leadership of CSEM.
- Logistics: A majority of this work will be completed remotely, on a flexible schedule determined with the CSEM Artistic Director and General Manager. Interns will attend concerts and events in-person as determined upon the start of their internship.
