Cambridge Society for Early Music encourages musicians and ensembles specialized in Early Music to submit concert proposals for consideration for future concert seasons.

We are open to all ideas, provided they involve music composed or originating from prior to the 19th century and consider appropriate performance practices. Although we welcome and consider applications from musicians from around the world, CSEM is particularly interested in supporting

  • New innovations or proposals from the Boston Early Music community
  • Up-and-coming musicians and ensembles

CSEM offers to successful proposals a series of three full-length concerts to be performed–in Cambridge and two other Eastern-Massachusetts locations–on two to three consecutive days (most often over the course of a weekend). The fee is to be negotiated and may include: travel or other expenses; home stay accommodations; and instrument rental/transportation if agreed upon.

CSEM endeavors to continue its educational work by organizing workshops, masterclasses and other events with community and educational organizations ,as well as local music schools. We welcome proposals for educational events and programs, or educational and informative pre- and post-concert experiences for our audiences. An extra fee may be negotiated for musicians participating in or leading these programs.

Criteria for selection is

  • -Proven expertise and performance quality
  • -Innovative, fresh programming ideas
  • -Willingness to engage with the CSEM audience through in-concert introductions and post-concert conversations
  • -Proof that the program has not been previously presented in the Boston area
