The double-manual harpsichord was made by Allan Winkler of Boston in 2004 for the Handel and Haydn Society, and is based on a 1716 single-manual harpsichord by Carl Conrad Fleischer (ca 1680-1738). Carl Fleischer was the scion of a Hamburg instrument building family renowned for their lutes and organs as well as harpsichords, and who were well respected by Bach and many other musicians of the period.
